Mmm That’s Odd: The Oral Manifestations of Systemic Diseases

Many systemic diseases have clinical features manifest in the oral cavity. Being aware of and noticing these clinical findings can be key early accurate diagnosis.

 A distinguished physician and researcher, pathologist Mark G. Hanly, M.D., FCAP, completed his medical degree at the Godfrey Huggins School of Medicine, University of Rhodesia. He trained in pathology at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, the Medical College of Georgia and the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, where he specialized in tumor pathology.  Dr. Hanly is board-certified in anatomical pathology and cytopathology and tropical medicine and hygiene. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and a member of the International Academy of Cytology. He has special interest and expertise in image guided fine-needle aspiration cytology and oncology pathology. Dr. Hanly is a clinical associate professor of Pathology at the Medical College of Georgia and clinical professor of laboratory science at the College of Coastal Georgia. A published author and frequent lecturer at national and international symposia, Dr Hanly has actively participated in mission work in Africa, India and Haiti.

Legislative issues and importance of getting involved with FDHA and local legislators.

Leslie Y. Dughi's state practice spans more than 20 years and includes all areas of the executive and legislative branches of government. From her representations, Leslie has gained in-depth knowledge on the inner workings of Florida government. Over the years, Leslie has represented health care entities and providers, including statewide associations, a major aerospace partnership responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Space Shuttle Program and an international auto rental and fleet management company. Further, she served as the Director of Government Affairs for the Florida Chamber of Commerce where she developed strategic relationships and led many legislative and grassroots initiatives important to the business community. Leslie has particular experience in the lobbying of health care and health insurance matters and other regulatory issues before the various state agencies and the Florida Legislature.

In addition to her lobbying experience, Leslie has considerable experience in political communications, serving as the Political Director for Associated Industries, Florida_s largest statewide business association. Throughout her career she has coordinated numerous grassroots advocacy campaigns for business entities and statewide trade associations and has worked with many Florida statewide and legislative campaigns.

Nutrition and Prolonging your Career Chairside

 Amy Galena, DCN, MSH, RDN is a registered dietitian, licensed nutritionist, who holds a doctoral degree in clinical nutrition from the University of North Florida. Mostly, Amy has worked in hospitals as a pediatric and adult dietitian with focuses on general acute care, critical care, outpatient care, and mental health. Amy has also worked as a professor, health inspector, and owned a private practice called Bee Nutritious. Currently, Amy works as a Clinical Research Coordinator at the Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research to follow her passion for research.

What's in a Toothpaste

Becky Horst is an Academic Manager for Colgate Oral Pharmaceutical, covering the South. She joined Colgate from Hu-Friedy Mfg, Co. LLC as Clinical Education Manager in the southeast. Becky consulted with dental and dental hygiene schools developing curriculum for power and hand instrumentation. She has presented numerous educational programs at schools and to dental professionals on biofilm removal, instrument maintenance, and infection control.

Becky graduated from University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, Dental Hygiene program where she also received her Bachelors of Arts degree. Becky practiced as dental hygienist for 10 years in general, pedo, and periodontal offices. Becky left private practice to pursue an opportunity with Benco Dental Supply as a practice management specialist, training offices to increase productivity, patient retention, and patient recruitment.
